So the second day of our big midterm/Eid trip, we went to Petra! We had to get up in the wee hours of the morning to make sure that we'd have enough time there. I'll say that I was surprised at how many people were there despite it not being the high season.
So we get there and start walking and it's kinda funny seeing everyone's faces. I think London really personifies the whole...why am I up look here:
So we walked through the beginning of the park and through the "Siq." It's called that because it's this long entryway into the heart or main part of Petra. On the way it was neat to see tombs that had taken aspects from various cultures.

So we finally get there and yay! We get to see the Treasury!

It was really cute because London was getting kinda cranky and antsy by this point and so her parents put her down to roam while I took pictures of them in front of the Treasury. Well lo and behold, she found a kitten. Whenever she sees an animal, whether it be a dog or a cat or whatever, her face just lights up and she wants to touch it. Luckily for her, this cat was rather tame and used to tourists and people petting it and loved having her pet it. And man, was London happy. Look at that FACE.
This is what pure joy looks like

After the Treasury our group split off into our own groups and we were told that we could come back whenever we wanted since our hotel was nearby. We just needed to make sure to stay in a few groups and not get terribly lost.
So Drew and I wanted to do the hike to the high place, since I hadn't done that one before and we went with the Garvins. Yay London gets to join us!
It was a super long hike, but we got to see some GORGEOUS sites.
Look how ity the people are, we were only like a 1/4 of the way up the walk at this point

Petra!
After this we decided to explore some of the king's tombs.
We also had a really neat experience. See, since it was Eid al-Adha, all of the schools and government offices were closed for a week. So the kids of the bedouins who work in the park were able to help out and hang out with their parents.
It was neat because we saw this group of girls who ADORED London and were so sweet. I wouldn't swear to it, but one of the girls looked EXACTLY like one I had met two years ago when I was there last time.

After this London was getting kinda cranky so Kyle and Bristyl decided to head back. They are troopers for doing so much with her along. So since Drew and I were then on our own, we decided to go and look for the church for the mosaics and then see how we felt at that point.

Mosaics!
More mosaics!
More Petra!
Even more Petra!
After we hiked all the way over to where the trail for the Monastery started, we were wiped out. Petra is intense without doing any of the hikes, and we had already done the longest at the beginning of the day. As it was, it was a good mile to two mile walk back to the entrance of the park.
We came back, ate lunch/dinner and crashed. Or I crashed, and Drew crashed for an hour then went out with others to get ice cream at Movenpick. Man...get that ice cream if you ever get the chance. It's amazing!
So day 2 of our trip was amazing and long!
